The Woman at Mill Creek

Every winter, someone sees the woman.

She stands on the opposite bank of Mill Creek.

Always alone.

Always wearing the same dark coat.

And always looking directly across the water.

The First Sighting

The earliest account local residents remember came from a fisherman in the late 1980s.

He had been walking along the creek shortly before sunrise when he noticed someone standing on the opposite bank.

He assumed it was another fisherman.

Then he realized she wasn't moving.

He called across the water.

The woman didn't answer.

He waved.

She didn't move.

Then he noticed something strange.

There were no footprints around her.

The Coat

Over the years, other people reported seeing her.

The descriptions were remarkably similar.

Dark coat.

Long hair.

Pale face.

Standing perfectly still.

She always appeared during the coldest months.

Never in summer.

Never in spring.

And never during the middle of the day.

Most witnesses saw her between midnight and dawn.

The Crossing

One man decided to cross the creek.

He had seen the woman several times and wanted to prove to himself that she was real.

The creek was frozen.

He stepped onto the ice.

Halfway across, he heard a voice.

"Don't."

He stopped.

The woman was still standing on the opposite bank.

He turned around.

When he looked back, she was gone.

There were no footprints leading away.

The Photograph

A photograph eventually appeared online.

It showed Mill Creek in winter.

Near the opposite bank was a small figure wearing a dark coat.

Some people believed it was the woman.

Others said it was simply a tree.

The photograph was never authenticated.

But the person who took it claimed they hadn't noticed the figure until they looked at the picture later.

The Old Story

Local historians eventually found a reference to a woman who disappeared near the creek decades earlier.

Her name was never included in the surviving newspaper article.

The article stated only that she had gone missing during winter.

Searchers found her coat near the water.

They never found her body.

There is no evidence connecting the disappearance to the modern sightings.

But the stories continued.

Last Winter

The most recent account came from two teenagers walking near the creek after midnight.

They saw the woman across the water.

One of them recorded a short video.

The figure remained completely motionless.

Then the camera shifted.

For less than a second, the woman appeared much closer.

The teenagers ran.

They never posted the video.

According to them, they deleted it the next morning.

Neither could explain why.

The Creek

People still walk beside Mill Creek during winter.

Some say the woman is nothing more than a local legend.

Some say she is a reflection.

Some say she is a trick of distance and darkness.

And some refuse to look across the water at all.

Because according to the oldest version of the story, the woman doesn't appear when you are looking for her.

She appears when she wants you to see her.

If you see someone standing across the water, don't cross.
